We are happy to announce the availability of latest hotfix for Desktop Central 7-Build 70213.

Enhancements and Bug Fixes

This newsletter comprises a complete list of enhancements and bug fixes available after Service Pack 2 was released.

Enhancements

The enhancements in Desktop Central are as follows:

  • The following features have been introduced:

    • Advanced Software Metering: This feature can be used to get information about the usage of selected software applications in the computers in your network.
    • IP scope: This feature can be used to change the settings of remote-office agents on the computers in your network, according to the IP scope defined in Desktop Central.
  • The following enhancements have been made in the Remote Control feature. Using this feature, you can now:
    • Make settings to prompt a user for confirmation to log in remotely, even if the user is not logged in or the computer is locked
    • Capture or render transparent windows
    • View the IP addresses of the computers, from which remote control sessions are initiated, in the Action Log Viewer
  • Desktop Central now supports service pack-1 for Windows 7 (x86 and x64) and Windows 2008 R2 (x64)
  • User-environment variables are supported using custom scripts

Bug Fixes

The following issues have been fixed:

  • Displaying of wrong execution statuses when a patch or a configuration is not applied in one or more computers
  • Deployment order in which individual configurations that make up a collection are deployed
  • Recreating agents even when there is no change in the properties of an agent
  • Connecting to remote computers that have multiple IP addresses
  • Establishing remote connections from the Inventory and Patch views

Feature-Enhancements in Focus

The enhancements in the features of Desktop Central include the following:

New Software Metering Engine

Desktop Central now has a software-metering engine to monitor software-usage statistics. Administrators will now be able to add software-metering rules and specify the names of the software applications, the usage of which, they want tracked. More Details | Steps to Enable Software Metering

Enhancements in the Remote Control Feature

The Remote Control feature in Desktop Central has been enhanced to include support to capture transparent windows, exclude specific computers from being prompted for conformation before a remote connection is made or make user confirmations a mandatory requirement before remote connections are made.

IP Scope for Computers in Remote Offices

Administrators will now be able to define IP boundaries for computers in remote offices in their network. They can use this feature to ensure that the information about an agent in a remote computer is updated automatically when that computer is moved between remote offices.
