Many IT environments today consist of a complex mixture of physical, virtual and cloud entities. Virtual and cloud environments are dynamic by nature. Also, the performance of cloud services is in turn dependent on the performance of underlying physical and virtual resources.  Therefore, IT departments need to ensure that sufficient server resources are continuously available to support these dynamic virtual environments. This can be a time-consuming affair and prone to errors if done manually. That is why the latest release of Applications Manager (release 9.5) supports automated virtual machine management, to enable you automatically provision virtual resources based on threshold breaches.

You can now create actions in Applications Manager to automatically start/stop/restart VMs of VMware and Hyper-V servers when thresholds are violated. For example, Applications Manager can be configured to automatically start, stop or restart virtual machines in a VMware ESX/ESXi server farm when the number of active sessions in a Tomcat server exceeds the specified threshold.

This automation capability enables the IT team to improve their operational efficiency by reducing manual intervention significantly. The IT team can also optimize resource utilization by reusing inactive virtual resources. Also, they can ensure that business-critical applications and services running in a virtualized environment are assured of sufficient resources.

Apart from the ability to auto-provision virtual resources, Applications Manager release 9.5 includes other features and enhancements such as

  • Out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ)
  • Automated cloud resource management
  • Enhancements to the fault management module such as the option to receive email notifications only during specified business hours and the option to execute actions for a specific number of times or repeatedly until they get acknowledged.
  • The option to associate multiple dependent devices across managed servers, etc.
