[ Mood: Amused ]
Recently we had a customer who asked if its possible to monitor multiple instances of a similar process as if they are related. The processes had the name patterned as httpd1.exe,httpd2.exe,httpd3.exe etc. This scenario could come if these processes behave as if they are load balaced. Hence if atleast one is running, then donot alert me.

Well this is supported. Here is what you need to do in the Applications Manager web client :

1) After adding the server for monitoring, add one of the processes for monitoring. Say httpd1.exe.

2) Now go and Edit this process name to just ‘httpd’. Save and wait for a poll to complete.

3)You will see the number of instances for that process then. Now you can go and configure an alert to match whatever criteria you want.

I agree this is not obvious 🙁 and not documented 🙁 But it works 🙂
