IT in 2018: A ManageEngine retrospective

ManageEngine | December 28, 2018 | 3 min read

2018 is coming to an end and you might already be looking back at how this year has been for you. In the IT world, 2018 started with the processor bugs Meltdown and Spectre. From there, the year was filled with data breaches and ransomware. But things weren’t all bad this year; the GDPR went into effect, which is a huge step forward in data privacy, and plenty of new technologies were released.

We’ve also had a bustling year at ManageEngine, so we’ve decided to revisit some of the major trends and events of 2018 and how we approached them.

 Spotting 2018’s trends

With the world witnessing some critical global IT shifts, 2018 has been an impactful year. We’ve seen the ripple effect of these transitions in ManageEngine, too.

  • Data analytics climbed to the top of the corporate agenda. Companies have increasingly shown interest in using data to make critical decisions. That’s why it was no surprise that we saw an increase in sales for our data monitoring and data analytics tools in 2018.

  • 2018 saw a rapid increase in cloud adoption, with cloud taking precedence over traditional on-premises solutions. Globally, over 77 percent of enterprises had at least one application or a portion of their enterprise computing infrastructure in the cloud. We witnessed a similar trend: a 14 percent increase in the adoption of our cloud solutions.

  • The global mobile phone market increased by 1.6 percent in 2018, with the total mobile phone sales amounting to almost 1.9 billion units. As a result of this increase, we saw a whopping 50 percent increase in the number of devices managed by our endpoint management solutions.

  • With 67 percent of SMBs experiencing a cyberattack and 58 percent suffering a data breach in the last 12 months, organizations have been keen on staying ahead of the evolving threat landscape by adopting active IT security solutions. In fact, we’ve seen a 36 percent increase in sales of our IT security solutions in the past year.

  • To get a 360° view of their IT environment, most organizations today are seeking contextual integrations for their IT products. As a result, we saw an increase in demand for our integrated IT management solutions 2018.

  • GDPR brought a buzz along with it. The importance of adhering to regulations was more evident in the past year. We observed an 18 percent increase in the use of our IT audit and compliance solutions.

  • A self-service solution can reduce an organization’s support costs by 25 percent; which gives IT administrators the bandwidth to perform more critical tasks. In line with this, we witnessed a 15 percent increase in sales of our self-service solutions.

Redefining ourselves

This year we’ve added quite a few new capabilities and features to our products like user behavior analytics, end-user experience monitoring, business flows, unified endpoint management, and contextual integrations. We also focused on ensuring stronger privacy for our customers with our GDPR-centric features.

New product launches

We strive hard to address our customers’ growing IT management challenges by coming out with innovative solutions. To keep up with growing demands, we’ve launched three new products this year:

  • Browser Security Plus: An enterprise browser management tool for managing and securing browsers across networks.

  • Remote Access Plus: An enterprise support solution for troubleshooting remote computers from a central location.

  • Mobile Device Manager Plus MSP: A mobile device management solution for MSPs and VARs managing multiple enterprises.

2018 had us busy

We never passed up an opportunity to interact with our customers. We were busy in 2018 with around 453 events, 68,000 support calls, and constant outreach to new partners.

Thanks to you

We were very fortunate to be recognized by some of the leading analyst firms this year. 2018 was a great year for us; we were mentioned in:

  • Five Gartner reports.

  • Two Forrester reports.

  • Reports by EMA, IDC, and Info-Tech.

All of our progress wouldn’t have been possible without our customers. We want to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all our customers who made 2018 a fabulous year for us. Take a look at our year in review to see everything we did in 2018.
