  • The IP allocation strategy: Most networks use a combination of both static and dynamic IP allocation. While business-critical devices are often allocated IPs statically via manual configurations, components such as end-user devices have IPs assigned dynamically by DHCP servers. With an IPAM strategy in place, you need to ensure you have clear distinction and isolation between the pool of IPs reserved for manual allocation and the IPs that are to be dynamically assigned by DHCP servers. Failing to do so could lead to IP address conflicts in your network.
  • Faulty IP management devices: It’s no news that networks are increasingly relying on DHCP servers for dynamic IP allocation. While these IP management devices save time and effort when it comes to managing a huge network address space, any issues in these IP management devices can easily lead to IP conflicts. This is why it’s important that you build an IPAM strategy that includes monitoring the scope and availability of your DHCP servers.
