MS10-15 and the Restart Issues

There are widespread reports of restart and blue screen problems on computers after installing MS10-15. Microsoft has confirmed that the problems is due to the presense of Malware in the computers prior to installation of the patch. But, they have not ruled out other possibilities; they are currently investigating the problem.

Microsoft has stopped pushing this update via Windows Updates. However, customers using other enterprise patch management solutions like SMS, WSUS, and SCCM will be able to deploy the patches. Desktop Central customers will also get the patches installed.

Desktop Central strongly recommends their customers to test the patch installation in their environment before planning for an enterprise-wide deployment. If you are unsure, it is recommended to skip the installatiion of this particular patch. The following steps will guide you to skip this patch:

  1. Synchronize the Patch DB
  2. Scan all your systems in the network to detect the missing patches
  3. From the Missing Patches view, search for MS10-015. This will list all the patches of this bulletin that pertains to your network.
  4. Select all the patches and click Exclude Patches button. This will ensure that the patches will not be deployed in your network.

Note: You should perform the above steps only after scanning all your computers (at least one computer from every different Operating Systems you have in your network)
