Hi Charlie Gartner,
First thank you for your valuable feedback !
Yes we are planning to add important troubleshooting tools like Remote Task Manager, Services Mgmt, User Account Mgmt, Wake up, shutdown, Uninstall software, etc. in the “Computer Details” page as well as separate tools in the “Tools” tab. Please tell me what are the tools you are expecting in this page ?
Monitoring event log of the client computers and sending alert will be a good feature. We will include this in our requirements list. I request you to post it in
http://roadmap.manageengine.com/index.php?category=DesktopCentral
One possible way to achieve event monitoring is, you can write a script and add it as a task using “Scheduler” configuration of DC. You can set up the time interval to monitor the events like every 5 minutes, etc. this script should read the events if any critical events then send email.
I trust the above inputs will be useful. Please feel free to share your inputs to support at desktopcentral dot com
Thanks
Mathi
Hi, Mathi.
I was curious if Remote Task Manager functions may be added to Desktop Central? I think most techinicians would like fast access to this tool linked straight from the Computer Details pages… perhaps a tab alongside the very good ‘Software’ and ‘History’ and such.
I for one find the performance monitoring and running process list invaluable all the time to quickly troubleshoot the popular “My computer isn’t as fast as it used to be” desktop call I get a lot of.
For now, I have to install the Free Tools alongside the DC 6 web console… and I can’t always get to them when I’m using the web. I have to remote the server to do it.
Plus, I can’t always get the knack of setting up SNMP/WMI/firewall rules and the tool doesn’t work. If it was right in DC Inventory and it used the agent as redirector that would be most excellent.
Additionally, I would LOVE to see the ability to read the remote systems’ Event Logs; and/or perhaps set alarms based on the occurance of certain specific events.
If this is already a capability, perhaps I am simply not getting it right… but I would (pardon my boldness) forward then that perhaps that could be implemented in a more intuitive fashion?
That said, thank you very much for a great piece of software. It think DC is overall a great product and it seems to get the jobs done nicely.
