Over and over, I get the same question from many admins and security professionals regarding the monitoring of files and folders. Although it can be complicated to address, I completely understand the issues, which are related to compliance and overall access. In reality, it comes down to monitoring the integrity of the company data.

Microsoft, of course, provides a file integrity solution, which will help you learn about changes to your system and program files. However, if you have information (data) that is not located in these places, nor shared, complications can arise. Well, ManageEngine has the perfect solution for you. We help you track ANY folder, regardless of it beingĀ  system or shared file. Here’s how it works.

First, you must be running one of our flagship products, ADAudit Plus. Within this solution, we offer the option to enable and configure your File Integrity. This is a one-click solution, as you can see in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Enable File Integrity using ADAudit Plus.

After that is enabled, you customize the folders that you want to monitor in the File Integrity configuration, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2. Configure non-shared folders for monitoring.

After this is set up, you will need to configure each folder to ensure that the correct user or group is being tracked, based on the correct level of access you choose. An example of this can be seen for the AuditDocs folder in Figure 3.

Figure 3. Set up auditing on the folder for access tracking.

After setting this, you only need to run reports from within ADAudit Plus! You can see the direct results of altering of filesin the AuditDocs folder, in Figure 4.

Now all auditors, security professionals, admins, managers, and more have an easy way to track the most important files and folders in the organization.
