Hello All,
I have been blogging about real-time IT and various dimensions of Application Performance Management (APM) for the past few weeks. I am now starting a new three-series blog that will be along the lines to what the eBook, which we released in November last year, talks about. We are also doing a Webinar on 25th January, 2012 where, along with me, Sridhar Iyengar, VP, Product Management, ManageEngine, will be explaining the first steps to real-time IT with a few business scenarios. What is real-time IT?: Today’s IT infrastructure is far more dynamic, flexible and elastic than ever before. The net result is what ManageEngine calls real-time IT. Real-time IT calls for IT to make the most of today’s game-changing technologies and deliver immediate services to organizations that are operating at an ever-increasing pace. It compels IT to operate at the speed of business, leveraging technologies to support new business models and applications. These applications are often customer facing and directly tied to businesses and their revenue objectives. Monitoring the underlying supporting infrastructure on a real-time basis is of paramount importance to ensure round-the-clock availability of these applications.
To ensure that business users get unmatched application-usage experience an APM tool must meet the following conditions:
• Synchronize IT with the 24/7 needs of business
• Make the most of emerging ‘always on’ mobile, social and collaboration technologies
• Deliver real-time services to organizations that are delivering applications and services within (and beyond) a firewall
• Use a ‘single pane of glass’ to monitor IT assets, key business processes and quality of experience
In this dynamic environment, IT can dramatically improve productivity and change entire business models by rapidly enabling and managing new applications to achieve bottom-line business value.
To achieve real-time IT, organizations must answer questions such as the following:
• Can we deliver an efficient APM solution that works inside and beyond firewall?
• Can IT operations and service teams solve application-performance issues before they impact users?
• Can a non-technical manager use IT-management tools to monitor business processes?
• Do applications perform consistently on physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures?
• Can we harness mobile technologies?
Get answers to several such questions and many more on how real-time IT can enhance productivity and provide you with the IT visibility that was always required to make important decisions and enable the end-user with great user experience.
