ManageEngine continues our weekly blog series called Talk to ME Tuesday. Each week we discuss interesting topics from the world of technology with you, the people that live and breathe it everyday.
“We’ve been sold to believe that migrating to the cloud is substantially cheaper than doing it yourself,” said Joe Szmadzinski, COO of IT Management Resources, during the IT Leadership Summit at the 2012 Interop Conference in Las Vegas.
“Make sure you understand the facts around cost structure about going into the cloud,” warned Szmadzinski who issued a challenge to all attendees to look at the pricing models of the cloud providers and compare them to their own provisioning. He said you may be able to deliver services cheaper and faster with less risk since the commercial terms you have are better than what the cloud providers have.
There is a whole array of concerns surrounding service level agreements (SLAs) that you need to take into consideration such as maintenance of confidentiality, uptime, service level, consequential damage management, limitation of liability, severability, and assignability, said Szmadzinski. Many of these elements that are disallowed in cloud agreements today, are what you would expect in a great contractor.
