In this blog, we’ll talk about the challenges in using native tools to provision Office 365 users, as well as how ADManager Plus can help streamline Office 365 user provisioning for both new and existing user accounts in Active Directory (AD).

When deploying Office 365 to an environment that already contains on-premises AD, admins are burdened with managing both an on-premises and cloud-based environment. Admins are required to provision and manage user identities as well as manage access to cloud-based resources. To do this, they have to toggle between native AD tools, the Office 365 admin center, the Exchange admin center, PowerShell, and so on.

Using native tools for user provisioning often requires several time-consuming steps, including user creation in on-premises AD; copying all information such as users, groups, and contacts from on-premises AD to Office 365; and finally, assigning licenses. The major challenges of this complex process include:

  • Toggling between multiple tools to provision users.
  • Delays in DirSync replication, which leads to user accounts being unavailable in Office 365 immediately after creation.

To overcome these challenges, ADManager Plus gives admins the flexibility to create a new user account in both on-premises AD and Office 365 from a single web-based console, as shown below in Figure 1. Provisioning across multiple platforms ensures that new user accounts have access to all the necessary resources immediately after creation.

ADManager Plus also lets admins create users in bulk in both AD and Office 365, as shown in Figure 2 below.
