Google Map View in NetFlow Analyzer

Network diagram or Network layout defines how the network is distributed and spread across globally. As a network administrator, its a huge task to consolidate and manage network devices spread globally. NetFlow Analyzer as a comprehensive network monitoring tool which allow the users to draw their network layout and provides an easiest way to manage network resources.

Google maps feature lets you physically locate your network resources on a map. This enables network administrators to have a feel of how devices are distributed and more importantly provide a quick and easy drill down to specific information. NetFlow Analyzer, by using Google maps API, lets you position your devices on a map for a graphical presentation.

How to place your Network devices on Google Map ?

You need to obtain a Google API Key in order to set up this. Click on Google Map View under All devices. An alert message pops up which tells you the URL at which you can generate a key for your access. Once you click on the “Click Here” Option on the alert message. A new window opens up which reads “Sign up for the Google Maps API”. You can use any existing Google account to obtain the API key which is provided free. Accept the terms and conditions and specify the URL for which you want generate Google Key.

The click on “Generate API Key” button, a window will appear with the key. Copy the key and paste on the given location and update the same which will bring Google map in to the NetFlow Analyzer. Next step is assigning location for the network devices on the Google map. You can click on “Click Here” option to assign location for network devices or you can navigate to Google Map Settings under Product Settings.

Network Layout

The network layout configuration on the Google map allow users to draw their network diagrams according to the device connectivity. To configure network layout, click on Configure Network Layout at the top right corner in the Google Map View. You will be prompted with a pop-up to select the nodes (routers or switches) for connectivity. Provide the link name and description and click on next. Select the interface relative to which you need to see the traffic details and “save”. Now you can see the traffic between the two link as per your need.


















Advantages of having Google Map Network Layout:

1. A clear picture of your network architecture.

2. Color changes based on the link status.

3. You can see the traffic between the two link as per your need.

4. Information on up to 3 top interfaces for a device is shown when clicking on a device pin.

5. You can set a default view for location so that whenever you click on Google Map View, the default location is loaded.

Google Map Widgets:

With the latest version of NetFlow Analyzer, you can create dashboards with Google map widgets so that the first view you get is the Google map view with your network architecture.

    I’m testing your Netflow software, and have a question.
    How can I change background image and style of link between devices on ‘Google Map View’ ?
    Also, link is utilized 86% (it is shown when I click on router) but it is still colored green.
