Organizations often face different forms of cyberthreats and cyberattacks, and attackers try to get their hands on confidential data which would result in major loss of reputation, customer’s information, etc. So, organizations should implement networking tools to secure their data.
DDI Central, a centralized platform to manage your organization’s three core network services (DNS, DHCP, and IPAM), provides one of the crucial security features which prevents your servers from being vulnerable to attackers by sending multiple request at one time. Response rate limiting (RRL) protects your network and ensure reliable service.

What is RRL?
Response rate limiting is the security feature that steps in to reduce the number of queries entering when multiple queries bombard towards the servers. This security measure is implementing during attacks like DNS amplification, DDoS, where the targeted servers are flooded with requests. This consumes network storage, memory, and capacity, leading to a potential downfall.
RRL prevents server shutdown by minimizing the number of queries received, so that the attacks can’t cause further damage. This ensures the security of network resources and servers of the organization.
How does RRL work?
RRL works by tracking specific IP addresses. When a high volume of queries are sent to a server from a specific IP address, RRL tracks down and measures the time interval between each requests, and the number of requests within a specific time period. If the time interval between each requests is less and the request are more in small-time spam, then it is considered to be an attack.
While resolving an attack, RRL will might also delay the query request of the organization’s clients during that period. However, this ensures that the problem is completely resolved without any mistakes.
What are the benefits of RRL?
Prevent server abuse
Response rate limiting primarily helps in prevent several attacks, like DNS amplification attacks and DDoS attacks, as these attacks abuse the servers to leak the organization’s confidential data. This prevention elevates the organization’s network security, as attacks can’t send more queries for an IP address to the targeted servers because of RRL.
Secure network resources
By limiting the response rate in the targeted servers, and preventing unauthorized individuals or groups attacking the servers, RRL ensures that the organization’s network resources are secured and servers are protected with additional layer of security. Also, RRL helps save the server’s storage and capacity but limiting the response which enhances the efficiency of the service.
Enhanced network experience
RRL is automated to handle the high volume of response rate during an attack, which simplifies network administrators job, and reduces the manual work of resolving and providing a safer network environment for clients of the organization. This results in a better network experience for clients as they don’t have to worry about their data getting lost.
Protect your organization’s servers from being attacked with multiple queries and secure your organization’s data with DDI Central’s response rate limiting
ManageEngine DDI Central’s RRL helps in safeguarding the servers of your organization from being vulnerable to abuses and attacks done by external unauthorized individuals or groups to protect your and your customers’ confidential data. This enhances the security of the network service by automated response limiting, logging, and reporting to network administrators, detecting server abuses through patterns, and also improving the client’s experience.
DDI Central’s RRL can be your key to a successful secured network with protected servers from high volume of requests from a specific IP address, and immediate resolving of an attack.
