When news of another OS release breaks, every user eagerly awaits the day they’ll be able to try out the new features. But a new OS can cause mixed feelings for IT admins, as they need to ensure that their existing mobile device management (MDM) solutions are compatible with the OS release before users start downloading it, and that this new OS doesn’t pose any threats to their organization.
As the release of iOS 11 draws closer, many MDM vendors are working diligently to make sure their solutions support iOS 11’s new features. We are happy to announce that Mobile Device Manager Plus will be supporting these new features right from day one!
Developers at Apple are definitely listening to enterpises’ wishes. With iOS 11, Apple is introducing a multitude of features to reduce security threats and strengthen data security. Here’s a list of a few noteworthy features:
- Remote viewing: Remote viewing was first introduced for Android devices with Android 5.0 (Lollipop). It allows admins to view users’ device screens remotely. Samsung went one step further and gave admins the ability to control mobile devices remotely. Apple is now following suit and introducing remote viewing in iOS 11. This will help admins remotely troubleshoot iOS devices, drastically reducing the time spent on support calls.
- Classroom 2.0 permissions: Apple introduced Classroom 2.0 with iOS 10.3, which allowed educational institutions to conduct and manage classrooms using iPads. It gave teachers complete control over students’ devices. Teachers could remotely lock students’ devices, remotely view students’ screens, AirPlay students’ screens, and also AirDrop required documents to every student with one click. The only loophole in this app was that students had to give the teacher permission every time the teacher tried to view or lock the device. With iOS 11, MDM solutions will have the power to restrict students from making any changes to these settings, ensuring that teachers always have permission to access students’ devices.
- Add any device to Apple’s Device Enrollment Program (DEP): Apple’s DEP is a platform that allows devices to be brought under management in just a few steps. This is essential because most MDM solutions require devices to be added to their server as the first step. As of now, admins can use DEP to enroll only those devices that have been purchased from Apple directly or from its resellers. With iOS 11, organizations can use DEP to enroll all types of devices, not only those purchased from resellers. Click here to learn about the benefits of enrolling devices using DEP.
In addition to all the above-mentioned features, iOS 11 also gives MDM solutions access for making changes to certain device settings that are crucial in preventing data breaches. Click here to view a complete list of all the iOS 11 features supported by Mobile Device Manager Plus.
