Now, fully loaded, ITIL-ready service management software is free for everyone

We made the Standard edition of ServiceDesk Plus free with no restrictions in April 2014.  That move has since allowed about 40,000 organizations around the world to organize and streamline their incident management process using our world-class, help desk software at no charge.

This was not a freemium marketing gimmick. Rather, it was ManageEngine’s contribution back to the community who put us in the leadership position for over a decade. The Rise of Free was a strategic move made from a position of strength to help organizations that otherwise would not have had the chance to deploy a solution for smart, help desk automation.

Over the past two and a half years, we made an interesting observation. As businesses grew, helped significantly by the adoption of ServiceDesk Plus, they no longer preferred using free software for businesscritical functions like IT incident management. On the other hand, there are organizations that are still small with tight budgets, but could benefit by implementing and automating more mature IT service management processes.

Return of the Rise of Free.

This realization is pushing us to modify our free offerings and ensure the benefits are far reaching and available to those who need them. We’re now offering free versions of each edition — Standard, Professional, and Enterprise for  all products in our ITSM suite: ServiceDesk Plus, ServiceDesk Plus On-Demand, ServiceDesk Plus MSP and Support Center Plus.

Edition (free version)

Free Technicians

Free Assets

Organizations that have a free license of the Standard edition from April 2014 to October 2016 will continue to get it free with no restrictions, forever. The changes take effect on November 1, 2016.

Rajesh I should be getting a free license based on this statement:
Organizations that have a free license of the Standard edition from April 2014 to October 2016 will continue to get it free with no restrictions, forever. The changes take effect on November 1, 2016, we have been a customer on the free version during this time period.
But the last two years I have been getting the run around and it looks like this year you are not going to honor this statement at all.

    • Rajesh Ganesan

Jesse, unfortunate to hear you had difficulties renewing the license. My apologies. Yes, you are right, you indeed are eligible to get the license for free. You just have to use this form and supply the same details you have in your license and it should be automatically generated for you. If you have issues with this for any reason like change of information, do let us know. I have also apprised our sales team to issue it for you if you reach out to them. Do continue to use ServiceDesk Plus and let us know if you need any assistance.

    Hi Rajesh,

I’d like to buy 80 techs for ServiceDesk Plus Standard Edition one year, how to place an order ?
As the blog said , $30 per tech per year, is that right ?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Peter Qin

    • Rajesh Ganesan

      Hello Peter
The Standard Edition is free for 5 technicians. For your requirement, I suggest that you write to for a quote. As for the $30 per tech per year, this was the AMS that existed before. Now AMS is part of your subscription. Hope this clarifies.

  4. Darrin

I am currently getting the run around from your company on this issue. First they said it will cost $5000, then they said first 5 Technicians are free and then $30 for each additional, then they said it would be $1500. However it should be free as per this article. I have an open ticket with you. ticket ID 8033156. Can somebody please help.

    • Rajesh Ganesan

      Hello Darrin,
Thank you for reaching out to us. As mentioned in the blog, the Standard Edition is free for up to 5 techs. For the 50 techs that you requested, the quote for annual AMS ( optional) is $1500 ( at $30 per tech per year). However since you did not want AMS and considering that you are an SDP Enterprise customer since 2014, the team issued a Standard Edition license for 50 techs, free, at no cost to you at all 🙂
We hope you continue to enjoy using ServiceDesk Plus!
