We just released the latest version of WiFi Manager - 5.5. It brings in multilingual support starting with support for French, German and Korean languages. We hope to add support for other languages too.

Yahoo! had an article about wireless attacks. LATimes wrote about it. We have heard about it many times and here it is again.

These articles talk about wireless hacking..the many forms - the evil twin, man in the middle, etc. and what you can about it. Worth the read.

Configuration Management on your access points is supposed to be simple. When you use WiFi Manager. Yea..that is why we built it the way it is built.

1. We use common templates. That means, even if you have multiple-vendor access point models, you do not need to login to each and every access point interface and change settings there. One interface, multiple vendors.2. Credentials are important. AP Management is done via SNMP or/and Telnet/SSH. It is neccessary to put in the correct write community for SNMP and username and password for Telnet/SSH. If you use Enable Prompt and Password, you need to put in the appropriate values for them.3. Various parameters can be configured and reconfigured using WiFi Manager. Radio settings, security settings (WPA, WPA-PSK..), VLANs, access control lists etc.4. Multiple access points from different vendors can be configured at a time.

5. Configuration can be imported from a pre-configured AP and pushed onto multiple APs in a single shot.

6. WiFi Manager supports configuration on fat APs, wireless switches, wireless gateways and routers too.

7. WiFi Manager, today supports 85 models of APs. But configuration support is not there in 16 of them (due to lack of proper implementation of SNMP or Telnet/SSH). But still, 70 is not a bad number, eh?

8. WiFi Manager also upgrades firmware on your access points too. On multiples too!

9. WiFi Manager maintains the history of all your configuration changes, just in case.

It is so easy to get lost in something you do..that you forget other things you need to do. So I am making excuses for not blogging.. but I have good reasons. The new version of WiFi Manager is out and it is called WiFi Manager 5.1. Cheeky, ain’t it? What did you expect? The Golden Scepter? (just kidding)

So what’s new in this release? More magic, more power and of course, the necessary repairs which can also be read as performance tweaks, more supported devices and of course, bug fixes. You can read the whole list on our website here.

Sometimes, we get emails stating that access points have not been properly discovered in WiFi Manager. They seem to land up in the “Unknown” category.

Most often SNMP may not be enabled on the device. What’s the solution? Login to the web interface of the device and enable SNMP. Unfortunately, you will have to do it for each device on your network.

Even if the SNMP is enabled on the devices, improper SNMP credentials will not allow WiFi Manager to discover them correctly. The SNMP credentials are not same as the device-web-interface password (unless you have put it that way!).

But once that is done, you can use WiFi Manager for just about anything!
