WMI Errors - Possible Reasons and Solutions

1. The RPC server is unavailable:

Possible Reasons
Possible Solutions
System might be down (Workgroup & AD) Please try after making the system up
Firewall might be blocking the WMI connection to perform inventory scan(Workgroup & AD) Enable 'Remote Administration'
IP Address resolved for the client computer from DC installed server could be wrong
  • Flush DNS
  • Proper DNS entries should be made

2. Access Denied Error:

Password for the managed domain might be changed after defining SoM (Workgroup & AD)
Edit Domain Credentials
Permission for Network/Internet activity in DCOM might be disabled (Workgroup & AD)
Enable DCOM
Simple File Sharing might be enabled. It should be disabled (Workgroup)
Remove 'Use simple file sharing'.
Step 1: Windows Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)'
Step 2: Reset value  in regsitry hive HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\forceguest to 0
Given credentials might not have enough rights to do WMI operation. User might not be in the admin group. Inherited rights might not be sufficient. TRY adding user to administrators group. If the user is in a domain administrators group, make sure that the domain administrators group is included in the local administrators group of the system where the problem exists
  • User needs to change password on first login.
  • User Account is disabled.
  • User Domain cannot be reached for authentication.
  • TRY Login with the account at a workstation to verify that everything is working.
  • Check the user account in the Windows Domain or System that it exists and has not been disabled or does not require a password change on first login.

3. Failed with error code :- 2147217405

This is error code for Access Denied error

4. Not enough storage is available to process this command:

Possible Solutions
System is too busy to do a WMI operation(Workgroup & AD)
  • Reduce the number of running programs
  • Remove unwanted files from the disk the paging file is on and Restart the system
  • Check the paging file disk for an I/O error
  • Install additional memory in the system.
Inventory exe is not present in Agent Reinstall Desktop Central Agent and try scanning

5. Server Execution failed:

6. The Storage Control Block Address is invalid:

Agent is uninstalled in machine by users(Workgroup & AD) GPO to install agent on every bootup and logon
System is too busy to do a WMI operation(Workgroup & AD) Hardware is corrupted to do a WMI operation
