AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - January 27, 2009) - ManageEngine, makers of a globally renowned suite of cost effective network, systems and security management software solutions, today announced an update to Desktop Central, the company's web-based Windows Desktop Management Software, with new features designed to help enterprises reduce the level of power consumed by PCs. The updated Desktop Central allows administrators to virtually eliminate unnecessary power consumption, reducing their company's carbon footprint and its energy bills, while generating revenue through power-usage reporting, which is key to claiming rebates from local utility companies.
Desktop Central's power management feature allows IT administrators to standardize the power settings of all computers across the network at once from a central management console. Through Desktop Central, administrators may:
-- Create and apply different power schemes to various types of users
-- Hibernate or standby idle computers automatically
-- Schedule shutdown of computers during non-office hours
-- Schedule system start-up just prior to users arriving at work
-- Generate system uptime reports to claim rebates.
"With corporations focused on 'Go Green' initiatives and coping with tough economic times, saving energy and saving money are priorities," said Mathivanan Venkatachalam, director of product management at ManageEngine. "One of the easiest ways to cut expenses is to effectively reduce the power consumption of the computers in the organization. Desktop Central's Power Management helps enterprises save big on energy bills and protect the environment by reducing the amount of work that power plants must do, much of which produces harmful byproducts, such as air pollution and disruption of natural habitats."
Availability and Pricing
The updated Desktop Central software is available now for download directly from the company's website at http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/desktop-central/index.html?prjan09. ManageEngine offers a 30-day evaluation license of the Professional Edition. A permanent Free Edition is also available for small businesses. The annual subscription price for the Professional Edition starts at $995 for 100 systems.

Pleasanton, California, August 5, 2008
AdventNet Inc. today announced the new release of Desktop Central, a Windows Desktop Management software, which helps enterprises in managing their desktops spread across the globe from a central location. Now, it is easy to patch, deploy software, take control of remote computers, and manage assets of all the branch office computers. The new release helps administrators to secure and standardize desktops from a single point irrespective of their physical location, thus saving huge time and effort.
Some of the highlights of this release include:
“We have more than 250 users with 7 branches. It was a difficult task to support those users desktop by a limited number of technicians. Using Desktop Central’s WAN solution it has become easy to support the users across all branches for trouble shooting, software installation, asset management, or patch management — it is like instant support to the users, which helps our IT department keep our users smiling. Now we can support our users instantly whether they are in Head office, branch office or in roaming,” says Akthar Gerab National Enterprises, a satisfied customer.
“Adding support for managing desktops in WAN is a significant milestone as it helps enterprises to avoid having multiple instances of Desktop Central thereby reducing the total cost of ownership,” said Mathivanan Venkatachalam, Director - Product Development at AdventNet. “As many organizations have a global presence for their business needs, the new release of Desktop Central will help them to manage their desktops with ease,” he added.

Over all the year 2007 was good for Desktop Central ! We have released DC 6 with our new architecture which supports Work-group and multiple active directory domains. Even though it is released in the last quarter of the year we got a very good response for this new release. We have added Inventory (asset management) feature in the second quarter of this year, it provides complete hardware and software inventory. In the software part, it provides software licensing, metering and compliance. Many customers are using this feature effectively and asking more enhancements. We have enhanced the software deployment feature with Run as, copy option, support for EXE, etc. This is another important feature used by our customers. We have strengthened other features like Patch Management, Configurations, User Logon Reports, AD Reports and tools.
Also we have released a new "free windows tools" which includes Wake On LAN, Shutdown/Restart tool, Remote GPO Update, Software Inventory tool and Join/Unjoin computer tool. We are planning to add more such free tools. These tools will help the administrator during troubleshooting and managing windows desktops.
To summarize, we were busy releasing new features and supporting our customers. It is happy to see a lot of new features in our product and many people are using them ! Without our customers' cooperation it is impossible to achieve this, my sincere thanks to all our customers.
More challenges are ahead for the year 2008, we are happy to take them up and solve one by one !
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2008 !
Thanks
Mathi
